Passage 1

African Elephant

The African elephant is the largest land animal in the world. It measures 4 metres tall and weighs up to 6 tons. It is strictly a herbivore. It has two main enemies-the farmer and the poacher. Poaschers hunt the African elephants for their expensive tusks. The African elephants often encroach into farmlands in search of food. Farmers kill the adult elephants when efforts to drive them away fail. Baby elephants, on the other hand, and captured and sent to zoos and circuses.

ช้างแอฟริกาเป็นสัตว์บกที่มีขนาดใหญ่ที่สุดในโลก มันสูง 4 เมตร หนักถึง 6 ตัน และเป็นสัตว์กินพืชเป็นอาหารเพียงอย่างเดียว ช้างมีศัตรูหลักๆ อยู่ 2 อย่าง คือ ชาวสวนและนายพราน นายพรานล่าช้างแอฟริกาเพื่อเอางาที่มีราคาแพง ช้างแอฟริกามันลุกล้ำพื้นที่สวนเพื่อเข้าไปหาอาหาร ชาวสวนจึงฆ่าช้างโตเต็มวัย (Adult Elephant) เมื่อไม่สามารถขับไล่ช้าง แต่สำหรับลูกช้างก็จะถูกจับและส่งตัวให้กับสวนสัตว์และคณะละครสัตว์
